Hing Premprey is a 22-year old who studies Laboratory Studies in Phnom Penh. He hopes to use his degree to become a lab technician and contribute towards improving the health care standards in Cambodia. Premprey has just started his second year of studies;
Within one year, Premprey developed himself immensely while living in Phnom Penh. First of all, he passed all his first year subjects for his Laboratory major and has now started his second year. He greatly enjoys his study and is very motivated to continue his good results.
Since Premprey left for Phnom Penh one year ago, his English has improved considerably. While living at ACE, Premprey followed their two English classes a week and joined an extra English class at another NGO called New life.
Besides studying, Premprey spend his time to volunteer for a Rotaract club, which he joined together with Pesith. This youth division of Rotary was set up by ACE and works towards improving the living standards of disadvantaged people. For the Rotaract, Premprey and Pesith have been saving some of their own money to invest in development projects.
Although the financial budget of the Rotaract is very small, they have been able to do two projects last year. One project dealt with farming and saw our two students travel to Kondal province to teach farmers how to grow vegetables and raise animals more effectively. The other project dealt with improving health care in the Ou Dong province.
In Ou Dong, Premprey used his University knowledge to educate the community on how to improve their health. Basic hygiene, a healthy diet and protection from Malaria mosquitos were among the topics which Premprey touched.
The last couple of months, Premprey has volunteered as a facilitator for the Youth Challenge Program. During his free mornings he prepares meals for disadvantaged kids and educates them on how to improve their health standard.
During the school holiday, Premprey visited Poipet and joined our community meeting. Here he shared his experiences of the city and University and encouraged his community and other children to continue studying.
